{"id":16,"date":"2024-02-21T19:47:42","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T18:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annaciaunica.fr\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2024-02-21T22:09:30","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T21:09:30","slug":"projects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/annaciaunica.fr\/?page_id=16","title":{"rendered":"PROJECTS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>CURRENT PROJECTS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>INTERSELF<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m the PI of the project&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/interself.rd.ciencias.ulisboa.pt\/\"><strong>\u201c<em>The Interacting Self: From Self-Consciousness to Social Interactions in Humans and Artificial Agents<\/em>\u201d&nbsp; \u2013&nbsp;INTERSELF&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>\u2013 examining the effect of interacting with artificial selves and bodies on the human bodily and social self.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It brings together an interdisciplinary team of world-leading experts and rising young researchers in philosophy, psychology, computational and cognitive&nbsp; neuroscience and robotics to provide a new understanding of how social interactions with human and artificial agents impacts the way we relate to ourselves, to our bodies and to others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>INTERSELF<\/strong>&nbsp;is funded by a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fct.pt\/\">&nbsp;Funda\u00e7ao para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia<\/a>&nbsp;(FCT) grant under the reference PTDC\/FER-FIL\/4802\/2020, awarded to&nbsp;Dr&nbsp;Anna&nbsp;Ciaunica (PI)&nbsp;and&nbsp;Prof.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.antoniahamilton.com\/\">Antonia Hamilton (co-PI).&nbsp;<\/a>(https:\/\/doi.org\/10.54499\/DL57\/2016\/CP1367\/CT0017)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2 BLUE MAGIC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m the PI of the project&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/magicshoeslisbon.rd.ciencias.ulisboa.pt\/\"><strong><em>\u2018It\u2019s a Kind of Magic\u2019: Exploring Multisensory Modulation of the Sense of Self Through Bodily Movements and Action Observation in Depersonalisation and Psychedelic Experiences&nbsp;<\/em>\u2013 BLUE MAGIC<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>Our project<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>uses the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/news\/headlines\/2014\/nov\/magic-shoes-how-hear-yourself-instantly-happy\">Magic Shoes\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;innovative device, developed by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/researchportal.uc3m.es\/display\/inv45647\">Ana Tajadura Jimenez,<\/a>&nbsp;to explore<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>the multisensory modulation of the sense of self and sense of presence through bodily movements and action observation in Depersonalisation. Depersonalisation is a condition that makes people feel detached from their self, body and other. The BLUE MAGIC project also explores the phenomenological markers of radical alterations of the self-experiences, as lived from a first-person perspective, in Depersonalisation and psychedelic experiences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our project\u2019s outcomes pave the way to potential new therapeutic sensory approaches for people experiencing body-perception disturbances. For example, by making people more aware of their dynamic bodily movements in order to counterbalance the feeling of being statically \u2018trapped\u2019 and living in one\u2019s head.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Our team<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr Anna CIAUNICA (PI)<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/hopkinspsychedelic.org\/safron\"><strong>Dr Adam SAFRON (co-PI)<\/strong><\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/researchportal.uc3m.es\/display\/inv45647\"><strong>Prof. Ana TAJADURA-JIM\u00c9NEZ<\/strong><\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/alexgalvezpol.com\/\"><strong>Dr Alejandro GALVEZ-POL<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project&nbsp;<em>It\u2019s a Kind of Magic\u2019: Exploring Multisensory Modulation of the Sense of Self Through Bodily Movements and Action Observation in Depersonalisation and Psychedelic Experiences<\/em>) funded by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.templetonworldcharity.org\/\">Templeton World Charity Foundation<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssnap.net\/\">SSNAP Duke University<\/a>&nbsp;award n\u00b0 TWCF0384 to Dr Anna Ciaunica (PI), Dr Adam Safron (co-PI), Prof Ana Tajadura Jimenz, Prof Alex Galvez Pol.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3<strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;WALKING WITH MY HEART<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m the PI of the Project \u201c<strong><em>Walking with my Heart : Examining the Effect of Dynamic Real-Time Sensory Feedback of Bodily Movements and Heartbeats on the Sense of Self and Sense of Presence in Depersonalisation<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>. It aims to investigate the relationship between bodily movements and self-awareness in depersonalization, a condition that makes people that feel detached from one\u2019s self, body and the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We explore whether a dynamic embodiment intervention, targeting multiple aspects of the bodily self simultaneously (self-face, body ownership, agency and interoception), may increase the integration of the bodily self in people experiencing depersonalisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Project WALKING BODY is funded by the&nbsp;&nbsp;Mind &amp; Life Europe Francisco J. THE ESTRANGED SELF IN DREAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m also the co-PI&nbsp;&nbsp;in tandem with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.essex.ac.uk\/people\/GILLM41709\/Helge-Gillmeister\">Helge Gillmesiter (PI)<\/a>&nbsp;of the project \u201c<em>The estranged self \u2013 Exploring the dream continuity of phenomenological self-detachment in Depersonalisation-derealisation disorder<\/em>.\u201d REF: ASD\/DSF 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we investigate for the first time dream reports in a clinical sample of people diagnosed with Depersonalisation Disorder.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.&nbsp;LIVING IN A DREAM<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, I\u2019m also a research team member of the project&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;<em>Living in a Dream: Body and Self-Experience during Waking and Dream States in Depersonalisation<\/em>&#8221; (awarded by the Bial Foundation, REF 115) aiming to understand how we experience our self and body in our dreams in a non-clinical depersonalisation. The project features international collaborators, including PI Dr.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/jane-aspell?trk=public_post_reshare-text\">Jane Aspell<\/a>&nbsp;Prof.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ch.linkedin.com\/in\/bigna-lenggenhager-59a82b79?trk=public_post_reshare-text\">Bigna Lenggenhager<\/a>, Prof. Jennifer Windt, Matt Gwyther.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>PAST (completed) PROJECTS as PI)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project \u2018<em>Estranged from Oneself, Estranged from the Others: Investigating the Effect of Depersonalisation on Self-Other Mirroring<\/em>\u201d \u2013&nbsp;<strong>SELF-ESTRANGED<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 was a 3-year&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bial.com\/com\/bial-foundation\/\">Bial foundation<\/a>&nbsp;-awarded project based at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Porto, Portugal, in collaboration with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/icn\/\">Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London<\/a>, London, The United Kingdom.&nbsp;&nbsp;The project was hosted by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mlag.up.pt\/\">Mind, Language and Action (MLAG)<\/a>interdisciplinary research group at the Institute of Philosophy, Porto.&nbsp;<br><br>The project aimed to&nbsp;explore the relationship between the experience of (i) Depersonalisation \u2013 a condition characterised by feelings of being \u201cestranged\u201d, cut-off from oneself and surroundings \u2013 and (ii) the sensorimotor processing of self and other.
